Website care that keeps the site working

A WEBSITE IS NOT FINISHED AT LAUNCH

A website is software. Plugins release updates, browsers change, certificates expire, and the people who want to break into your site never stop trying. Left alone for a year, a site that launched fast and secure becomes slow, out of date and an easy target — usually without anyone noticing until something breaks in public.

Most businesses do not need a full-time developer for this. They need someone reliable who keeps the software current, takes backups that have actually been tested, watches for problems, and can make the small changes that come up every month — a new price, a new team member, a landing page for a campaign.

That is what a care plan is. We keep your site updated and monitored, tell you in plain language what we did, and stay close enough to the code that when something does go wrong we can fix it rather than escalate it. If your site was not built by us, that is fine — we start with an audit and bring it up to standard first.

WHAT CARE INCLUDES

The work that keeps a site fast, secure and current — done on a schedule instead of in an emergency.

Core, theme and plugin updates

Applied on staging first and checked before they reach your live site, so an update never takes the site down.

Backups that are tested

Regular off-site backups, with restores tested — an untested backup is only a hope, not a safety net.

Security monitoring

Malware scanning, hardening, login protection and firewall rules, with alerts when something looks wrong.

Uptime & performance checks

Monitoring that tells us if the site goes down or slows, often before your customers notice.

Fixes and small changes

A monthly allowance of small edits — content, images, prices, a new section — without raising a new project each time.

A clear monthly report

What was updated, what was fixed, uptime and speed, written so a non-technical person can read it.

WHAT GOES WRONG WHEN NOBODY LOOKS

Three failures we are called in to fix, all of which are cheaper to prevent than to repair.

Security

An old plugin is an open door

Most hacked sites are not targeted — they are found by scripts scanning for a known hole in software that was never updated. Cleaning up afterwards costs more than a year of maintenance, and a blacklisted domain can take weeks to recover in search.

Backups

A backup nobody has restored

Plenty of sites have backups running and no idea whether they work. We take off-site copies and test restores, so the day something breaks is not the day you find out the file was empty.

Drift

Fast at launch, slow a year later

Pages get heavier, plugins pile up and images get uploaded straight from a phone. Left alone, a site quietly loses the speed it launched with. Monthly checks catch that while it is still a small fix.

WHAT A MONTH LOOKS LIKE

Care work is routine on purpose. This is the rhythm a typical month follows.

Stage Typical time What you receive
Daily Automated Backups, uptime checks and security scanning
Weekly Scheduled Updates tested on staging, then applied live
Monthly 1–3 hours Small content and design changes you have requested
Monthly Report Uptime, speed, updates applied and issues resolved
As needed Same day Response when something breaks or the site goes down

Every emergency we are called into was visible months earlier, in a report nobody was reading.

WHO CARE PLANS ARE FOR

Different sites need different levels of attention. These are the situations we cover most often.

Business websites

Brochure and service sites where downtime means lost enquiries and outdated content means lost trust.

WooCommerce stores

Stores where an update gone wrong can stop orders — so everything is tested on staging first.

Sites we did not build

We start with an audit, fix what is urgent, then move the site onto a normal care schedule.

Teams without a developer

Small teams who need someone to call when something breaks, without hiring in-house.

Agencies & marketers

White-label care behind your own client relationships, with reports you can pass on.

Multi-site setups

Several sites or regional versions kept on the same update and backup schedule.

WHAT WE LOOK AFTER

We support the platforms we build on, which means fixes come from people who understand the code underneath.

WordPress

Core, themes, plugins, security hardening and performance for content sites of any size.

WooCommerce

The store layer too — checkout, payments, shipping and the plugins around them.

Headless / Next.js

Dependencies, builds, hosting and the CMS behind a custom front end.

Hosting & domains

We can manage hosting, SSL and DNS, or work with the provider you already use.

HOW CARE STARTS

Five steps from first call to a site that is quietly looked after.

  1. 01

    Audit

We review the current state: software versions, security, backups, speed and anything already broken.

  2. 02

    Fix the urgent items

Out-of-date software, missing backups and security holes are dealt with before the plan starts.

  3. 03

    Set up monitoring

Uptime, performance and security monitoring, plus a staging environment to test updates safely.

  4. 04

    Agree the plan

We confirm the update schedule, backup frequency, response times and the monthly allowance for small changes.

  5. 05

    Monthly rhythm

Updates, checks and your requested changes each month, followed by a short report of what was done.

WHAT CARE COSTS

Care plans are monthly and priced on how complex the site is and how much change you expect. After a short audit you get a plan with clear inclusions, response times and a monthly change allowance — no lock-in for years.

Get your estimate
  • What moves the price
  • The size of the site and how many plugins or integrations it uses
  • Whether it is a content site or a live store taking orders
  • How much small-change work you expect each month
  • Response time and cover you need outside working hours
  • Whether hosting is managed by us or by your provider
  • The state of the site at the start, if it has been neglected

SIGNS YOUR SITE NEEDS CARE

Most emergencies we are called into were visible months earlier. If any of these are true, the site is overdue for attention.

Ask for a site audit
  • Common warning signs
  • Nobody can remember the last time plugins were updated
  • You are not sure whether backups exist, or if they work
  • The site has been hacked, defaced or blocked by a browser before
  • It has become noticeably slower over the last year
  • Small changes wait for weeks because nobody owns the site
  • The person who built it is no longer available

MAINTENANCE QUESTIONS

Core, theme and plugin updates tested on staging, regular tested backups, security monitoring and hardening, uptime and performance checks, a monthly allowance for small changes, and a plain-language report of what was done.
Yes. We start with an audit, fix anything urgent such as missing backups or outdated software, and then move the site onto the normal care schedule.
It depends on the size of the site, whether it takes orders, and how much monthly change work you expect. You get a fixed monthly price with clear inclusions after a short audit.
Monitoring alerts us, usually before you notice. We investigate, restore from backup if needed, and tell you what happened and what we changed to prevent a repeat.
Yes. Updates are applied to a staging copy first and checked, which is how we avoid the classic problem of a plugin update breaking a live page.
Daily for most sites and more frequently for busy stores, kept off-site. We also test restores, because a backup nobody has restored is not a backup.
Yes. Plans include a monthly allowance for small edits — content, images, prices, a new section. Larger work is quoted separately so you always know the cost.
No. Care plans run monthly. We would rather keep the work because it is useful than because of a contract.
We can manage hosting for you or work with your existing provider. Either way, the accounts stay in your name.
You keep everything — the site, the accounts, the backups and the documentation. We hand over cleanly and leave notes for whoever takes over.
